On Friday afternoon, after the Girls Varsity Soccer team defeated Brewster, the Boys Varsity Soccer team took on Lourdes for their first Sectionals game. The Bobcats were clearly hungry for the win, as they started fast early in the first 60 seconds with a goal from senior Max Hammond. That opened the floodgates for Byram, as they ended up putting two more in before the end of the game.
They never looked back, dominating possession in the midfield with Ryan Noel’s skill, and the midfielder’s accurate passing eventually increased their lead to two goals from a joint effort near the net. Junior Spencer Weinhoff scored as Byram Hills continued their quest for the state championship. Only 90 seconds into the second half, senior Danny Friedman got in on the party to make it 3-0 with his speed.
Byram’s defense and goalie Andrew Fishman did not have that many opportunities against Lourdes, but stopped anything that came their way, especially with Max Matza’s defensive headers and the outside backs’ speed on the wings.
The boys will move on in Sectionals, hopefully coming out with another win. Be sure to come and support your Bobcats in their next game tomorrow at 3 pm!
