On Wednesday, June 6, at 7:00 PM, the Authentic Science Research Program will be hosting their annual Dr. Robert Pavlica ASR Symposium – a night full of inquiry, discussion, and celebration! The evening will commence with a presentation from this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. George D. Yancopoulos, the President and Chief Scientific Officer at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In addition to hearing from Yancopoulos, the 31 graduating seniors will be honored for all of their hard work. These students have researched their topics with great dedication for three years and have represented Byram Hills High School in many science competitions. Some of these topics include sea otter reintroduction into the wild, confronting stereotypes, imagery in the English language, photovoltaic cells, ACL injury prevention in teens, and prostate cancer microbiology. When asked about how she feels to be presenting her final work, Alex Remnitz says, “It feels strange. I really don’t know how these past three years went by so quickly. It is nerve-racking, but at the same time extremely rewarding as the community is able to see what I have been studying throughout my science research career.”
Following presentations, there will be a reception showcasing the work of the current juniors and sophomores in the program. Ellen Amico, a junior, says that symposium “is a fun night for the community to come together and celebrate!”
Be sure to join us in two weeks on Wednesday, June 6th at Byram Hills High School! We hope to see you all there!
