On Sunday, September 23, 2018, from 9:15 am to 2:00 pm, Armonk’s sixth annual “Run for Love” race was held in Wampus Brook Park. This 5k race is held every year to honor Jamie Love, a passionate runner and former member of the Byram Hills cross country and track & field team who passed away in 2013 due to cardiac arrhythmia.
After high school, Jamie chose to pursue his love for running during his time at the University of Vermont while studying mechanical engineering. He worked at Hickory and Tweed – a sponsor of the event – helping the community while fulfilling his love for biking and snowboarding, from a very young age. The Byram Hills High School cross country team, Jamie included, participated in The Armonk Outdoor Art Show Road Race year after year. Following Jamie’s passing, the race was renamed in his honor. The Byram Hills Volleyball varsity volleyball team has also been involved in this event in the past few years. In addition to the race, there were many yummy treats such as fresh-pressed apple cider and Beascakes donuts, as well as live music performances. Michelle Love, Jamie’s mother, said that she is incredibly honored that people continue to love and support her son even years later. This event’s net proceeds benefit children’s programs at the North Castle Public Library, of which Jamie was an active user, the BHPA and the Armonk Chamber of Commerce.
Sunday was a great day for all who participated and allowed the community to come together and honor Jamie Love.
