Thanksgiving is a very special holiday filled with love, family, friends, tradition and relaxation. The holiday is a break from the stress of first quarter ending as well as a time to appreciate the little things in life that we often take for granted. Whether it is the family time, delicious food, or watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Thanksgiving has something special for everyone. Sophomores Talia Deutsch, Jack Goldman, and Arianna Tabankin share what makes Thanksgiving significant to them and all of their favorite memories.
Talia Deutsch hosted Thanksgiving at her house this year and had around 40 people from both sides of the family to come together and celebrate. Talia and her family cherish time together as they reflect back on memories from the past year. A tradition that Talia and her cousins share is choreographing a dance performance for the rest of the family. In terms of food, the crowd pleaser was the mac and cheese Talia’s mom had made, which is always everyone’s favorite. Talia shares that, “My family means a lot to me and spending time with them is the best!” Thanksgiving is truly a memorable experience for Talia and one that she can look forward to all year.
Jake Goldman starts the holiday morning bright and early with his family when they all come together to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. His family enjoys watching all their favorite singers and performers in the parade followed with the dog show, where the cute dogs flaunt their fresh styles. Jake loves to eat turkey with gravy on Thanksgiving. He claims “it is so delicious, especially right out of the oven.” Jake has always loved everything the holiday has to offer, as he states, “Thanksgiving is a great time of year. It provides us with an opportunity to slow down our busy lives and take time to thank the people who help us and are kind to us.” He also feels that the holiday is a great segway into the “most wonderful time of the year.”
Ari Tabankin does not have any specific Thanksgiving traditions, but she enjoys talking about funny things that happened in the past with her family. She is a true fan of all the holiday’s food including , cheesecake, mashed sweet potatoes, and any pumpkin-flavored food. Ari values Thanksgiving as it is “My favorite holiday and I absolutely love it from the bottom of my heart.” Ari is fortunate enough to have a cousin who is her age that she looks forward to seeing during the holidays and go shopping with the next day on Black Friday.
In general, Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with joy and exciting traditions with family and friends. It is important to always take the time to appreciate and thank the ones who you value and care for you. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with people they love and delicious food!
